Login Problems

There are a number of strategies in place to deal with users who have lost, forgotten or simply have not received their usernames and password. Read the following scenarios and follow the instructions applicable to your situation.

Everybody who receives a CPD pack should receive a username and password though the post under separate cover.

I have never logged into the uptodate website and I have lost/forgotten/never received my username or password.
In this instance, you will need to get your username and password sent out to you again in the post. Contact the CPD helpdesk on during office hours (9.30am to 4.30pm, Mon to Fri) who will ask for you registration number and a confirmation address. Alternatively, you can email with your registration number and confirmation address. In both cases, your details will be sent to you in the post and you will typically receive them the following week.

I have logged onto the uptodate site before and entered some records but have now lost/forgotten my username and/or password and cannot log back in to update my CPD.
You will need to telephone the CPD helpdesk on during office hours (9.30am to 4.30pm, Mon to Fri) who will ask for your registration number and locate you on the CPD database. You will then be asked for the answer to your secret question, which you are strongly urged to complete on successfully entering the site for the first time. This is just a security measure and if you answer correctly, then the helpdesk will provide you with your details over the phone otherwise your address will be taken and confirmed and your details sent to you in the post. If you send an email to in this situation, you will be instructed to telephone the helpdesk as we are reluctant to distribute usernames or passwords on email due to the inherent insecurity of the internet, even if you have provided a correct answer to your secret question.

I have entered my registration number and the username and password I have been issued with at the log-in page but I am still unable to enter the site.
Some of the default usernames and passwords generated by the Society contain one or more capital 'O's that may be confused with zero and number '1's that look similar to capital 'I's and lowercase 'L's. Try entering the data again, replacing the confusing characters with its alternatives. Similarly, be especially careful to enter full stops, commas, hyphens and other grammatical symbols as these may not be clear on the letter and are legitimate characters. At no point are you required to enter spaces in any part of the username or password.

These sorts of errors have been especially noticeable where a password is required. It is particularly difficult to enter the characters correctly as they appear as stars in the textbox. You may wish to use a text editor like notepad to ensure that your have entered your password correctly and then copy and paste the characters into the text field. You will then know that this field is correct. If all else fails, you can telephone the CPD helpdesk on during office hours (9.30am to 4.30pm, Mon to Fri) and they will try and resolve your log in difficulties.
